School collects thousands of canned items, wins pizza party
CLEVELAND, OH-- Students from Clark Elementary School rallied together to support Cleveland Browns star receiver Braylon Edwards “Holiday Great Exchange City-Wide Canned Food Drive” to benefit the Cleveland Foodbank. The students collected more than 4,000 canned items, beating out 20 elementary schools who also accepted Edwards’ challenge to fight hunger during the holiday season.
Clark received special thanks from Edwards followed by a pizza party sponsored by Domino’s Pizza (Cleveland). A third-grader received an autographed jersey, after becoming the school‘s top individual collector with a total of 247 cans.
“Domino’s prides itself on community involvement, we admire and appreciate the commitment Braylon has made and wanted to do our part says Roland Porter, Domino’s Pizza franchise owner.
“All of the schools did a great job. I presented the challenge and they accepted. These kids aren’t from privileged backgrounds, so it says a lot about their commitment to help others. I want them to understand the natural reward that comes from giving," Edwards says.
The Cleveland Foodbank distributes more than a million pounds of food to more than 450 hunger programs in a six-county area. One-third of recipients at local hunger centers are children.Back to Press Room |
